24th Street Typeface

inkjet print
13 x 19 in

2010

The letters and numbers that make up 24th Street Typeface were found on various surfaces on 24th Street in San Francisco, photographed, and digitally isolated from their original contexts. The collection of characters functions as a sort of ephemeral typology, representing a singular moment of the thoroughfare's ever-changing physical and cultural characteristics. In light of the climate of gentrification happening in The Mission District (a place long revered for its rich cultural vibrancy) at the time this piece was made, it was created with an anticipation of loss / drastic sudden change and exists as a kind of nostalgic record.
